Dear Students:

The final week of quint 1! I am thrilled about how much we will be able to learn together this year, because your English level is so strong.

This week, our focus is the essay on The Giver. Today, we will ask and answer final questions about the novel. I will also introduce you to writing a thesis statement and an essay outline. 

Tuesday, we will gather more evidence and hold our debate, finally. Come prepared with arguments to support your side of the debate.

On Wednesday, we'll complete essay outlines, then you'll be working on the actual writing of the essays.

Here are the key terms that you will need to understand and be able to write:

Introductory Paragraph: the hook, the transition, and the thesis

Body Paragraph: the topic sentence, sandwiching a quote, the wrap-up sentence

We will also take our final vocabulary test on Wednesday. You can hold me to that!
