Dear Students,

This week, we will continue to focus on Macbeth. What we are doing is called "close reading". That means that we are discussing many passages together and looking for connections to themes and to other passages. It is an excellent way to learn to become a stronger reader in the sense that you will learn to make these connections and to recognize themes yourself by practicing in this way.

You have been doing an amazing job with this! I have never had a class of international 9th graders with so many students who are paying attention, maintaining concentration and understanding enough to hold interesting conversations about Macbeth.

I will come to study hall one of the evenings this week. If you are feeling lost, that will be an opportunity to speak with me about it.

We will have a line quiz. For that, you will be able to use your own notes and your own text. So, be sure to annotate what we discuss in class and be sure to bring your text to class!

We will also spend some time reviewing the Renaissance watchwords and the reasons for the renewal of learning and arts in Europe at that time.
I will put copies of my lecture notes in the library and at the front desk in the dorm so that you can review them and add to your own notes.

Thursday and Friday are lectures on the Reformation.

Please maintain your vocabulary notebooks and be able to give me a list of your 25 quiz words on Thursday.

See you in class!

Heather
